There are a small number of music therapy charities that can help parent/carers to fund music therapy we can point you in the direction. Sometimes this is met by parents/carers, or more typically schools or other sources cover the cost through a range of funding sources:ĮHCP funding, often attached to children in need community grants, ASF (adoption support fund), some people self fund and some schools use wellbeing, healthy schools or mental health funding for our wellbeing projects. The second aims to give you a flavour of what a music therapy session looks like. The first introduces you to the Therapy service, some clients and some of our referrers from schools and other settings. You can view two films about our Music Therapy service. Our work settings include adult residential care homes and day centres, community centres, libraries, client’s homes, primary and secondary mainstream and primary and secondary special schools and outdoor learning environments. We work with a range of need covering complex mental health, physical difficulties, low level anxiety and stress, and with clients across the spectrum of ASD both verbal and non-verbal as well as working with trauma, dementia and learning difficulties, social isolation and bereavement. If you would like to refer more than one client or a setting that would like one of our therapists to be based with you for a day, please contact us directly. You can refer yourself or if your child is in school you can ask the Senco, special needs Lead to do a referral for children or adults a key worker or family support worker can also help. The music therapy team collaborate with care colleagues to understand and respond to residents’ evolving needs, developing strategies to help with positive and person-centred relationships.“Music Therapy is an established psychological clinical intervention, delivered by HCPC registered music therapists to help people whose lives have been affected by injury, illness or disability through supporting their psychological, emotional, cognitive, physical, communicative and social needs” BAMT 2022Īnyone can be referred for music therapy. Music therapy can help people with dementia to relieve stress, express emotions, and connect with others. Another of our core roles is enabling members, their families and staff to experience a comforting and person-centred end of life. A large part of our work is currently with people living with a diagnosis of dementia, and the team has an in-depth understanding of the challenges that surround this aspect of aging. We work with people to support healthy, active aging. Sessions also use conversation and digital music technology when appropriate. In each session, our experienced music therapists use their therapeutic skills to engage with residents by sharing live music, using singing, percussion, musical cues, and expressive communication. Our music therapy sessions are free of charge for care home residents, thanks to the generous charitable income of our supporters. Since the foundation of our music therapy service in 2008, we have grown to a team of 30 highly-skilled music therapists, who deliver individual and group sessions across our homes and schemes throughout Great Britain.
